Re: O'Day comparable to which other mfr?

To anyone stumbling across this old thread; It is clear from reading these posts that reed1v was a troll with an axe to grind. Because his most recent post was: 03-12-2015 14:21 (3 years ago), I believe that he has moved on and must be lurking under some other bridge, ruining some other discussion.

I have taught sailing and provided fleet maintenance to a sailing school that used several older boats. Because of my job, I am very familiar with the build quality of several boats. Among the boats that I am well acquainted are an O'day 192 and 35, a Lippincott 30, a Pearson 303, several Hunters and a couple of Catalinas. I will share my opinion that the O'day build quality was on par with Pearson and CAL, two other manufacturers from the '80s and better than Catalinas and Hunters of that time period.

Catalinas and Hunters seemed to put the money into dock appeal for the wife. O'day more of a plane Jane and money into construction. JMHO

Re: O'Day comparable to which other mfr?

I owned a 1982 O'Day 34 for six years. Then sold the boat to a friend in 2006 and he still owns it today. Wife and I had a lot of fun on the O'Day, but I never warmed to the boat as I have others. The boat we purchased after the O'Day was a 1986 CAL 33-2. I will say from experience that the CAL was a much finer built boat than the O'day. And the CAL was faster. CAL had excellent engine access. I always felt the CAL was a better quality boat than the O'day. The O'day was a close second to CAL I guess. But that is just my .02 cents.
