New mast and Rigging Seattle area?

We used YachtMasters Northwest on Lake Union in Seattle and were/are very happy with the result. Three years later and not a single problem. Not one.

Kent Powley is their Master Rigger and he did an excellent job re-rigging our sailboat. He is extremely easy to work with (his communication and education styles are top notch) and he takes the time to answer all of our questions - even years after the sale.

YachtMasters do what they promise and finish on time. And no hidden surprises in the quote when the final bill was totaled.

And did I say that Kent was really great to work with?

As several others have mentioned, Port Townsend is a one stop shop for you.

We did the same 2 years ago when we bought our current boat.

Brion Toss did the pre-purchase rigging inspection, and subsequent tuning.

His shop is right next Carol Hasse's sail loft Port Townsend Sails. Have them inspect your sails, and reinforce/repair anything that needs it. If you are planning on a new set of sails in the next few years, you could also have Carol measure your boat so when the time comes all you have to do it place the order a year in advance of arrival.

We are very glad we did as described above. And you won't meet better people to do business with. They are competitive despite being top in their field world wide.

You will also find any other kind of service you might need there, and it is a really nice community and home of the PNW annual Wooden Boat Festival. [Sept each year]

I recommend contacting the above businesses in advance so you can schedule time. Walk-in during summer season might cause you avoidable delays.

I put in a call to Brion, got no answer so I sent him an email. Just waiting for him to get back to me.

I asked about converting the boat to a cutter rig by adding a bowsprit, not sure how feasible that would be, but I don't know if I don't ask right!

You should seriously consider a trip to Sidney, BC. With current exchange, you can get a lot of work for your money at Canoe Cove or several others. All very competent.

Ok, now that I look at the pictures more closely I am confused, in this drawing the mast comes down trough the dining table, and the boat in the drawings is backwards as opposed to #7, if the mast is in the same place what is supporting the mast???

Upon looking at it a bit better, the plans listed on that site are not the right ones for the boat, there is additional space aft creating mini cabins on each side.

I think you are correct that all that has to be done is to add another stay.

Actually the masts are deck stepped so no deck penetration to leak and it is supported by the 2and 1/2 thick mahogony plywood built up main transverse bulkhead.

Actually nick that hull was done with three different cabin/rig combinations. Rememberthee were semi custom boats. Factory built with future owner input as to interior and rig.

This configuration is way better than what is drawn IMHO, that one you sent over is nice, I particularly like how they put the fireplace in, lost a seat at the table but gained a very valuable heat source.

Yep..Spencer did everything except the rig. My grandfather and I took delivery either in Tacoma or Gig Harbor (dont remember which) and motored to Shilshole. It was originally rigged in Seattle. I would guess by Seaview.
