headroom

Hello everyone, been reading the past posts and seems there is some good advice to be found here.
I live on Vancouver Island and am just starting to look for a live-aboard with aims at being offshore capable in the next three years, as i get my skills up to scratch. Was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on boats with a bit of extra headroom in the 35 foot range (i'm 6'4") . I'm finding a lot of the web pages don't mention headroom. Also wondering if anyone had any experience or input about the mirage 33 or Aloha 34. These are the two boats i've noticed in my price range with the extra noggin space
ps i'm pretty green so am not even sure these are off shore capable boats
pps also needs to be singlehanded sail friendly

I have the same problem at 6'3". The Endeavour 35 will work although they are famous for leaks around the chainplates and ports. Also was amazed at the headroom in the Island Packet 35.

My biggest problem has been that even if the cabin headroom is sufficient, finding a cockpit where you can actually stand under the boom and/or bimini is still a problem.

Offshore capable? I'm not sure. But, the last Watkins 33 I looked had made the trip between the Gulf of Mexico to Maine six times. The boat has a 6'5" headroom throughout most of it. Much more than I need. I looked at two 1988's and a 89. Appear to be well made and reasonably priced. If interested check it out on the Watkin's Owner's website.

Another vote for the Endeavor. My best friend is 6'6", and purchased his Endeavor 43 specifically because of headroom. THe Challenger 35 also has 6'4"-6'6" headroom.

CSY has plenty of headroom. Actually, plenty of all types of room, and they certainly have done plenty of bluewater.

When we decided to go cruising we couldn't afford a boat that had 6'4" headroom. (I'm about 6'4") In my book the dealbreaker is to be able to strech out on my bunk. So, I choose a boat that had most everything on the want list, nose high celing but a really large forpeak.

Love it!

Although I had to learn to walk like an ape.. Small price to pay, for everything else I like about the boat.

I can't tell you what the best boat is but I can say that walking around a boat hunched over gets okd in a hurry. I am 6'5" and my boats head room in most areas is 6'7'' or so. It was very important to me to have enough head room.

Thanks, have been researching all of the above, and also have come across the Niagara 35. Seems to fulfill all the specs i've come up with though a little over my original budget. I particularly like the layout, draft and good rep. wondering if anyone has any unbiased opinions, everything i've read seems pretty positive. Also seem to be considerably cheaper around the great lakes, and am wondering if it would be worthwhile to ship one or if they are cheaper for other reasons.
