Re: Greetings to all and Cabo Rico Question

Huh. That's interesting. I called Cabo Rico about an hour ago at the number on their website and it was disconnected. Then I called Covey Island Boatworks in Nova Scotia, the company that was partnering with Cabo Rico in 2011, and they told me the factory in Costa Rica is dormant and not in use. The guy "in the know" at Covey was in a meeting when I called but is supposed to get back to me with further details when he's free. It seems that Cabo Rico is not currently building any boats. Do you remember who you spoke to when you called them?

Re: Greetings to all and Cabo Rico Question

That's strange. What I've found out so far is that Cabo Rico's factory in Costa Rica is NOT in operation. I don't see how that boat could be a 2014 model. I think I may call the broker. Thanks for the info.

No, the Costa Rica office is not in business. They are now located in Fort Lauderdale.

I don't recall who I spoke to but I did call them at the 1 954-519-2101 number.

You should still be able to get plans for whatever CR you want and use whatever boatyard you choose to actually build it.

Re: Greetings to all and Cabo Rico Question

Yes, but the Cabo Rico facility in Costa Rica wasn't an office. It was the factory where they built all of their boats. And you may not be able to use their plans at another boatyard because someone may still own the intellectual rights to those plans. I'm waiting for some people to call me back in order to find out exactly where everything stands. Thanks for the phone number. I'll try to get in touch with someone there.

Re: Greetings to all and Cabo Rico Question

Good news everyone! I just spoke with Fraser Smith at Cabo Rico in Florida. They are just about to re-open production of their boats at a new factory in Costa Rica that is quite near to their old one. It is a more modern and elaborate facility and they are employing most of the experienced craftsmen that worked with them before. They are, indeed, partnering with Covey Island Boatworks in Nova Scotia in order to have a North American East Coast distribution. fitting, and repair facility. Cabo Rico will be taking orders for all of their boats except the CR38. The CR56 will now be offered in a center-cockpit ketch-rigged version that Fraser is sending me drawings of. So we should be seeing some beautiful, new Cabo Rico yachts launching in 2014. Excellent!
