Thumbs up DIY Mast Install

I'm in the caribbea right now, and my mast is on the ground. I am considering doing a rerig and stepping the mast myself. Any thoughts about the mast DIY, or should I just grit my teath at the raping of the local riggers? If anyone else has done this for themselves, I would like to hear from you. The boat's a 51' Jeanneau with a 54' spar. Thanks for your input! Capt. Dave

Re: DIY Mast Install

You will need an hour of mobile crane time and 2 helpers--the crane should cost $100-$250, depending on how far it has to travel and how greedy they are. If you really want to go cheap, raft the boat up between two others and use their halyards.
