I have been a closet cf stalker for a few years, whilst secretly gleaning information on choosing the right yacht fro me.
We have recently purchased a huon pine hull motor sailer, and are very happy with her. It is funny that throughout the whole search process I was looking mainly at production boats (compass, top hat, cavalier) here in Australia, and only fiberglass.
How is it that a yacht can catch your eye and then steal your heart in the process go against everything you had on your checklist??

We have taken her to sea as we bring her to her new home port, and she is a very safe and comfortable boat, and sails not too badly.

Finally I can start making some contributions on here as opposed to armchair dreaming!!

She looks really nice from the pictures. From the haning view she's got nice, clean lines. You're going to have to do more sailing than motoring so you can call it a sailer/motor.
If my plans all go accordingly I'll be sailing Chasing Summer in those waters in 3-6 years.

Where is your home port? The one pic looks a bit like Kettering, another perhaps in Port Arthur, but not very many clues there!

We hope to return once again this coming summer... perhaps we'll share an anchorage sometime.

Good spotting! Yes, the one at the marina is indeed Kettering, where we purchased her. We have taken a few trips around Bruny and the channel. Our last cruise took us to Nubeena - Norfolk Bay - Dunalley - Maria Island - Triabunna. She is on a mooring there until next week. We are heading to her new home port of Gravelly Beach, Tamar River via Freycinet - St. Helens - Banks Strait.

She looks a beauty! Huon Pine is one of the best boat building timbers in the world and she's sure to be sea kindly with her long keel and solid build.

She handled very well in a 4-5 mtr swell heading to Nubeena. Not so well when we had had 1-2 mtr short and choppy sea. At 11 ton she goes through the waves!

Its great having the enclosed cockpit and aft cabin having a young family.

So when did you move from Thirroulawatu (as my mate calls it) to Tassy? I lived in Thirroul for 10 years and have been living in the Northern Suburbs of the 'Gong for about 23 years now.

We have some good friends who moved from Otford to Tassy also 2 years ago.

You are a horrible person Matilda, i always said that i would NEVER buy another wooden boat. But yours i just showed to my lady and she said "how lovely is that? Huon pine, i bet it smells so nice" Oh Oh!

Hope you are proud of her, you should be.
