As I recall, Winter Cove has fairly good protection from SE wind and swell and the holding ground is sand and rock, not the best but more than adequate. The Gulf Islands are a wonderful, quiet spot to spend time any time of the year but in winter with very few folks around, it is one of the few spots to find peace and quiet... I'd go there in a minute! Phil

Active Captain lists ratings from about a dozen people who have been there. their ratings are very favorable, but most were there on the warm side of the calendar. Some note that it is rocky in the middle.

We anchor in Winter Cove frequently in the winter. We'll likely be there tomorrow. We've never had a problem. In the winter you can use more scope because of the lack of boats. We've also anchored at Cabbage Island in the winter. The Gulf Island are a different place in the winter.

The tidal current pattern is always anti-clockwise and the electric cable across the cove make the S.E. quadrant the favored area, there is a shoal on the Northern part that makes it a poor choice. Sometimes a bit weedy but a nice anchorage and a beautiful and peaceful place all year.
