Sandy Island

On C-Map charts at around 19' 15"S 159'56"E (about 70nm east of Chesterfield reef) there appears to be a pretty large island. But as you zoom in it dissapears.

It's also there on Google Earth, but as you zoom in there is no definition. It remains, but becomes a blocky mess, labelled as Sandy Island.

Anybody have any Idea what the story is here?

My garmin has that position as a shallow region - not out of water.

The chesterfields have been known to be vicariously charted. Eyeballs needed....

A pommy cruiser came to grief a few years ago because the cmap level he was monitoring didnt show a reef in that area.
