Hawaii to California in September

Seems to be a total lack of info in this case as to weather patterns and such, sailing from Hawaii to California. Most is the other way around. So any of you gurus out there have any experience in this? Or does anyone know of a blog/website where someone has done this at this time of year? Looking at historical weather is like rolling the dice in Vegas, maybe some weather then again not. Actually, I always preferred to come home from Mexico in front of a tropical wave/distrubence/hurricane, as it was downhill all the way to San Diego!

Where in California? San Diego?
If so, just head right back up the trades, south of the East Pacific High. It is only a close reach for a couple-three weeks. There is always a breeze to sail in until you are a couple hundred miles offshore, then it is a matter of luck. Did this four years ago from Oahu to San Francisco.
Otherwise you can take the long way north out of Hawaii to above the East Pacific High, east to Cape Flattery, then cop a right and wait for California to roll by. The further north the high is the less attractive this way looks, even if it is (mostly) downwind. Sorta did this two years ago - Hawaii (actually Tahiti) to Washington.
August and September are fine - winter is not...
