French Polynesia Visa Question

Hello, I've read all the threads here and on the Pacific Puddle Jump mailing list carefully regarding French Polynesia immigration. But there's one thing I can not find.

Has anyone arrived to Tahiti on the normal visa (90 days), return to their home nation, and then initiated the process to apply for the 1 year visa? I realize it take 3-4 months to complete this process but I'm wondering if making an initial 3 month visit in some way disqualifies you for applying for the 1 year visa.

I'm guessing the reason you don't hear much about this scenario is that it's financially illogical compared to just getting things done in advance.

Thanks!

Re: French Polynesia Visa Question

Mate, way too complex for this simpleton.

Maybe get on the immigrations page for the outre-mer places, and your country of origin will affect the answers.

Re: French Polynesia Visa Question

Hi Matrix,

We did exactly that. If you go to our blog (linked in my signature) and use the upper right search window typing 'long stay' you will find a part one, part two post about it.

Happy to answer any further questions. We are in Nz right now so have regular internet access.

Re: French Polynesia Visa Question

Amazing resource, thanks Livia!

That post answered a lot of questions. I also called the Los Angeles based French Consulate this morning and they were very helpful too.

Thanks everyone, I'll post further on this thread if I learn anything more other than what's in Livia's post.

Cheers
