Cyclone season harbor in New Caledonia?

Oh well, I lived in Vila for 2 years and didn't see a single boat snap a mooring cable. Even so I certainly wouldn't tie to the seawall in a storm.

Vila hasn't seen a major cyclone in quite a while, maybe 20 years.

To my knowledge 5 in 2 years and we haven't had more than 40 knots in that time. Last one was 2 weeks ago in 15 knots westerly. Full blown cyclones are carnage in Iririki channel.

G'Day Pete,

Just out of curiosity, where in Havanah Harbour were you thinking about? PErhaps way up in the N end? There is a lot of fetch from one direction or another in most of the areas where I have anchored in Havanah. It would certainly be a good cyclone spot for a large ship, and I seem to remember that during the war it was used as such.

Havannah was the first US base in the West Pacific. It was used to hide from the Japanese while all the ships and supplies got into the area.

Later they moved up to Luganville because it had better space for an airfield - not such a good harbor though.

Hey Jim, yeah, tucked right up the north end, hard on the eastern side gets out of just about all of the fetch. The other spot if wind direction is going to be N-E-S is the bay with Moso landing, can't remember the name but just north of the old American wharf.
