Tracking AIS

The great thread on the Atlantic Delivery got me thinking that I should get a spot or similar but then thought I have AIS.
So I have AIS on board and was wondering how someone such as my family could track my movements if they had the just the usual I things ,computer etc.

Re: Tracking AIS

If you have an AIS Transmitter, and not just a receiver, they may be able to use sites such as FleetMon, or MarineTraffic.com. I know I've tested it briefly by using my phone's mAIS app and pulled them up on my computer next to me, so it might be worth looking into.

Re: Tracking AIS

Depends on where you are going even if you do have a transmitter. To show up on the web AIS sites, you would need to be coastal cruising in range of a base station. Another coastal cruising option is a cell based AIS called Boat Beacon. It, coupled with MAIS will, show up on that site. I have been using a spot in northwest Gulf of Mexico and it has worked great. I have it plugged in and it transmits continually when I am on the move.

Re: Tracking AIS

Yes I have a transponder and will only be coastal cruising in NE Austalia.
Thanks I'll have a look at those apps.

Re: Tracking AIS

If you have net access, just put your position reports on skipr.net. Really simple.
