Suggestions for insurer of an Australian catamaran ?

After much searching, we're (finally) preparing to take delivery of a Lagoon 440 and looking for advice on insurance in Australia.

Have any Aussies had good / bad experiences with particular insurers - or suggestions on which ones give better value for a larger cat - that can save us starting the search from scratch and help us keep the cost under control ?

Thanks

Re: Suggestions for insurer of an Australian catamaran ?

Hi there...and welcome to CF!

A Lagoon 440 eh? Congratulations...and what a good choice!!! So tell us more...where is the L440 coming from? ...what's her name? ...where will be her home port in OZ?

As for your query in this thread, we have no hesitation at all in recommending Club Marine. We bought our L440 lying in Sardina and initially insured her with Pantaenius UK because they were well recommended in Europe AND, very importantly, the only company who would reasonably insure us for the 'delivery' voyage. We had no problems with Pantaenius and found them to be very efficient. After we landed in OZ, however, our enquiries then lead us to change to Club Marine...and we have been very happy with Club Marine ever since. In fact we were recently involved in an unfortunate incident that involved some reasonably substantial repairs to our vessel and the Club Marine support throughout that process was excellent, really first class.

Thanks .... and I admit your own rave reviews were one of the many that helped us make the decision. We're still to do survey when she completes her crossing but am very confident it will all be good ... but won't post her name yet just in case.

Brisbane will be our home .... and from where I will no doubt post many naïve questions as I try to learn how to look after her !

Whatever else may be said (and there are plenty of critics!) about the L440, after 20,000nm on ours we will challenge anyone who suggests they are not superbly seaworthy and comfortable vessels, when properly maintained and sailed of course.

We hope your survey goes well...and that we will perhaps share some exquisite anchorage with you one day soon!?!

We started out being insured by Pantanius, Germany. They were excellent and gave us very good support. We had a no-fault incident while docked in Greece. They paid up promptly and were of great assistance.

When Pantaenius Australia opened, we had to transfer. We've yet to find out how their service compares to the German company.

I have just had 4 quotes done for our 440 in Australia for insurance. Pm me your email and i will forward them if you like. They vary up to $1500 for exactly the same quote request?

Great boat you are buying too.

Welcome to the club, we insured with TOPSAIL UK they accept us worldwide as we cruise our way back to Australia.

Currently we are in Marmaris enjoying our 3 cabin 440.

Cheers Frank

Re: Suggestions for insurer of an Australian catamaran ?

BTW and at the risk of serious 'thread drift' () we should urge all our fellow L440 owners here (and you too Boardshorts...and anyone else as well!) to enter our CF October Giveaway (http://www.cruisersforum.com/forums/...ml#post1375667 ) as it closes very soon now. Given that all our products arise out of enjoying cruising on our L440, we hope there'll be plenty of 'stuff' there that others will find useful or fun (or both!)...and especially when they're offered as 'freebies'! We'd love to see our giveaways find homes amoung friends...

Now back to the gripping discussions of insurance...
