Protecting Non-Stainless Steel Stuff

I understand the concept of using stainless steel for blocks/chain plates/shackles/...

My question is what do you do to protect non-stainless steel stuff like tools - sanders/saws/end wrenches ...

I keep a very greasy rag in the toolbox. Yes, the tools are then always greasy, but that's the idea.

Don't have much experience protecting electric motored stuff, but I do when it comes to keeping other tools in good shape. Coat them with oil or grease and put them where they will not get wet (hopefully). Periodically maintain the coat of protective substance. Recoat after using them.

Grease will last a long time but is a mess, oils like Boeshield t-9 need maintenance more often. I'm sure others will have great recommendations as well. I grease stuff I almost never use and pack it low and away, everything else gets t9 or in a pinch some wd40.

I spray all hand tools with WD-40 in a plastic toolbox. That way the excessive spray stays in the box and vibration keeps the tools lubricated.
Power tools can either a plastic bag with desiccant inside to absorb moisture or if the tool will fit, get a vacuum sealer for food and seal the tool inside..

I just keep everything as dry as possible.

The preservation methods could all work, but in the long run most power tools break in some minor but important way, so I just throw them out.

They're not that expensive.

Anyway, none of my power tools have rusted to any appreciable degree. Its only the spanners that I drop in the bilge that are a problem.
