Strangely, I do not feel any emotions when looking at sunken stinkpots.

Greetings and welcome aboard the CF, Caapi.

A sad sight, indeed.

Re: Northern Norway, as of Today

Really was bad last night, hove to off Bornholm Island in the Baltic, sustained winds of 70 kts (forecast was 45 to 50), max gust 79kts. I'm really glad things have calmed abit.
Loss of the "Swanland" in the Irish Sea was tragic, very little hope for the missing crew

Yep, looks expensive.

Anyone else notice that the sailboat in the background is still floating?

Just looking the news here in Vadsø. Afternoon tabloids full of the filmgroup vanished during the storm. They were washed away during filming. A lot of damage along the coast especially in Lofoten. Glad it didn't come up here.

Who here has required a tow, and had a sailboat show up.

Re: Northern Norway, as of Today

I take no pleasure in seeing any boat sunk. Owning a powerboat is not my dream, but it was the dream of a fellow mariner, and to see them awash (and likely leaking hundreds of litres of fuel, too) does not give me cheer.

An inverted jetski surrounded by a slick of blood is another matter.

Our committee boat brought up a spinnaker with their anchor last year; it fouled their prop and they were towed back to our club by a 38 foot sailboat with a 27 hp engine.

Apparently, they had to watch the engine temperature the whole way as they were towing against a stiff wind. So it can happen.

Re: Northern Norway, as of Today

I visited Tromso many years ago aboard a submarine as a member of the US Navy. It was such a beautiful place. I hope to be able to take my family there for a visit one day. My thoughts and prayers go out to everyone suffering through this weather, and especially to the families who have lost loved ones as a result of the storm. Boats can be replaced.
