Mystery object

This nicely made stainless steel, coathanger sized object came with our boat, a 2007 Lagoon 420, and after 4 years I still can't fathom what it is.
Any ideas?Click image for larger version

Passerelle hanger. Used on the end of the passerelle halyard to hold up the end of a passerelle.

Re: Mystery object

OK that is great, I had a suspicion it had something to do with the passerelle. We are currently in our berth at Mooloolaba, Qld and using the passerelle, but I'm still not sure how it works.
Can you elaborate?
Thanks

Re: Mystery object

Keith,

Here's the best online photo I can find. Look carefully at the top of the picture and you'll see that the hanger is used to separate the halyard line leading to the two support lines going down to the end of the passerelle. Basically, it acts as a spreader for the two support lines so you can walk through the middle.

Re: Mystery object

A boat I was on years ago had one of these.

The fitting you posted is tied to the shore side of the plank, which can then be raised and lowered like a drawbridge using a spare halyard.

Re: Mystery object

You could perhaps also use it for a hatch wind scoop?? if your boarding set up is already in place!!

Yep that makes all sorts of sense, thankyou very much! I can't wait to try it in the morning, I will post photos if successful.

A good old gangplank, but in French.
Would never have known what it was. Passarelle

Re: Mystery object

That's a nice one too, probably custom made.

Here in the Med 8 out of 10 boats have a hanger supporting a passarelle at the stern. 1 out of 10 has a hydraulic passarelle, and 1 has a simple wooden plank.
