Nice to see some pics of the rewa, read about Johnny Wray salvaging parts of her for ngataki.

Looks like you had fun!

I didnt know that, just looked it up, great story...

Ngataki

Eerie wreck site and a great trip all round.

If your interested in New Zealand boating, just an aside...The old ferry, Kestrel, sank on its mooring in Auckland Harbour a couple of days ago, pretty sad affair:

Get hold of the book "south sea vagabonds" if you can, a brilliant read.

Very funny and well written. A true classic that's way better written than most of the sailing books of that era.

Sad about that old ferry.

The beloved Auckland ferry sank overnight at its berth in Wynyard Quarter.
General manager of Panuku Development Auckland Marinas Tom Warren said the sinking had come as a surprise to the council and "definitely a loss for Auckland" and for the Preservation Society. - NZME

Thanks for the tip on the book, i'll take a look at that.

real shame about the Kestrel, they restored it once but that might be the end of her this time...

Re: Little vid of 3 day trip around Moturekareka Island NZ

Very sad about the KESTREL. As a boy I lived in Devonport. After school I would go to Devonport wharf where I would board the KESTREL and other ferries. I got to know many skippers who would let me steer the double-enders across the harbour and back. I had to take my own apple box to stand on, to see over the huge wooden spoked wheel. There were still a few steam ferries running then too, which I also 'skippered.'

I think the die was cast then, as to my future seafaring life!
