Hulls - GRP versus Aluminium?

I would appreciate any pros and cons on GRP or Aluminium for hull construction also as a novice looking to buy a (live aboard) boat and learning to sail (shorthanded) any further advice on Marque, Length, Rig etc would also be be very helpful.
