Greenland with Monique Chicken - Guirec Soudee Adventure Video

Greenland with Monique Chicken - Guirec Soudee Adventure Video

Some films, stories, and poems can awaken dreams of adventure, especially if they feature a sailboat. This short video is outstanding, stunning, inspiring, and sparks the spirit of adventure. I don't say that lightly. I was so impressed by this short video (really a promotional trailer) that I was AWESTRUCK and also thought to myself how I wish I had done something like Guirec has done at such an early age. WOW! It is not only a beautiful video, it made me think of the beautiful thing about exploration, seeing new sights and facing challenges. This video is special.

It is beautifully filmed by JP Meriglier and uses drone camera footage to show us the environment of Greenland from the perspective of a young (24 years old) adventurer (Guirec Soudee) who sails his boat there, spends the winter aboard along with his crew, in this case a chicken, a red hen named Monique. We have all now seen drone video footage. But I think this producer/film maker (Meriglier) has done an outstanding job of incorporating the drone POV without overpowering the rest of the video. In short, he uses the drone very skillfully to add to the video presentation, without making it dominant. Well done! Exemplary!

I think this film trailer (short promotional video) is marvelous and encourage you to watch it, and share it with anyone of any age you know who loves adventure and sailing. Fair winds Guirec and crew!

Here is a link to my Facebook page where I posted this video, if you want to share it on Facebook.

And here is a link to Guirec's Facebook page if you want to follow his adventures. He plans on going through the Northwest Passage to Alaska.

Here is the link to this video trailer on Vimeo, which is like YouTube. It can be shared easily via this link, which I got from the film's producer.

Thanks Steady! Very cool (pardon the pun). Monique is beautiful and Greenland, not half bad!

WOW, I agree, incredible video.
Also, when I first heard about him, I imagined having a chicken aboard to be rather silly and nasty, but after watching the video, I get it now. It may sound strange but that chicken is not a normal chicken, lol.
Thanks Steady, really great stuff there!
Thank you also for the link!

Very cool video, and the chicken is the star of the first half, lol.

I'm wondering if he was not solo during the whole trip, given for example the drone video of him climbing up the iceberg. Can't see how you could get it to pan and focus on you remotely while you have two ice axes in your hands.

Also, one of the first shots shows him caught in ice. I don't know anything about sailing in those conditions but it strikes me as dangerous to get caught in that situation. Can anyone comment?

I am NOT certain, however I think the filming and editing is done by a professional filmmaker who spent time with Guirec Soudee while he was in Greenland. So, I don't think he was "solo" for the entire time he was in Greenland, but that really doesn't matter to me either way. I don't think he is going for a record for single handing or such.

Re: Greenland with Monique Chicken - Guirec Soudee Adventure Video

The filmmaker is one of my Facebook friends, so I asked him about how the film was made and he kindly replied:

"I was aboard with Guirec for 3 weeks as a film maker. I helped him sometimes but my main objective was to film. This is a single handed voyage for Guirec and his hen Monique."

I hope that clarifies. I see this film as something special and much better than just a "selfie cam" video that is much more common. It takes technical skill and artistic vision to make a film special. I think JP Meriglier (the filmmaker) has done a great job of that.

How many have been successful attempting the NW passage? It really looks beautiful in Greenland. Makes me want to get a drone.

Re: Greenland with Monique Chicken - Guirec Soudee Adventure Video

There is another video about Guirec Soudee and Monique I really enjoyed seeing. It came out earlier and was produced by another producer/editor. I only have a link to it via the facebook page (could not find a way to embed the video here on CF), but here it is.
I enjoyed it and hope you will too.

Guirec Soudée has a website: Voyage d'Yvinec (Yvinec is the name of his yacht). It is written in French and in English. There are others videos on the site.
