Days? People prepare for YEARS and still don't think they are ready. There is no guideline for this but you will know more once you've sailed for a while.

There are also a number of Jeanneau 43DS in the Caribbean. I owned one that was ex-Sunsail charter and was happy with the boat and with the price that I paid for it, there are heated discussions about buying or not buying and ex-charter boat that belong in another thread, but I was quite happy with doing so.

The Caribbean is easy sailing and I know several people who bought a boat and learned to sail there. The pricing in the Caribbean is great and the boat is already in a great sailing location.

the 43DS is a solidly built boat with an excellent layout below decks and on deck. The sail plan is good (I had in-mast furling) and sails pretty well into the wind.
