furuno autopilot not complrting rudder test

Good day!

If I start my autopilot and activate it, it automatically turns the rudder all the way strb or port. The fix is to, every time I start Sailing, to run a rudder test. Eventhough the test doesnt complete, the autopilot seems to work fine, after that operation. Next time I want to use it, first I have to run again the rudder test.

When I start the rudder test, the autopilot turns the rudders to strb, the maximun degrees it can go to strb is around 10°, it tryes more but it is fisically impossible since I have seen the rudders underwater and they are all the way to strb.

I need help on determining the cause of the rudder test not completing.

Re: furuno autopilot not complrting rudder test

Furuno has a very helpful technical support forum on their website.

If your rudders only have 10* of travel each side, that is probably too little. What type of boat is this? Most rudder stops are set at 30-40*. It is possible that the pilot thinks something is wrong with only being able to move 10*.

It is also possible that it is not getting proper rudder position data. Are you sure your rudder stops are set at 10* and that is the limit they travel? It could be that your rudders actually do travel 30-40*, but the rudder feedback unit is telling the pilot it is only 10*. Maybe test the feedback unit?
