Thanks to all for your input and info.

We were hoping to go ahead and buy a boat and keep it in Florida to provide easy access for sailing for the next few years while we continue to work full time; then retire and take off with the boat to which we would already have grown accustomed.

BUT, it sounds like the high cost of dockage in Florida and with the cost of insurance, we're probably wiser to just keep saving our "shekels," charter when we can, and wait til we're "ready to go" to buy our boat.

Plaza 15 dock in Ft Lauderdale. Deep water just off of ICW west of Pier 66. plaza15dock.com for rates and availability.
