200 euros a night for a 10 meter boat! Are they crazy?

Re: Corsica introduce Anchorage fees...

WHAT?????

Hopefully, they'll wait till the end of summer.

I just read the article.... "Only marine protected areas." The same thing in Sardinia and a section in Mallorca, it only effects a small portion of the coast, so.... We anchor just outside the "marine protected areas." Still plenty of beautiful coastline to enjoy.

The local towns will fight the new tax.

Re: Corsica introduce Anchorage fees...

That's an odd notice. I have been following loosely the French discussion regarding anchoring fees and that made a lot of noise, it seems to me that it would not be approved and if I can remember rightly it was only on natural parks (not specifically in Corsica).

I will try to go to the sources in French and see if that is comfirmed.

Re: Corsica introduce Anchorage fees...

OK, it is here:
ASSEMBLEE DE CORSE
DELIBERATION N° 14/241 AC DE L’ASSEMBLEE DE CORSE
Cannot post a link but you can google for it.

It is only about Natural Parks (and that is already bad as it is). The ridicule importance of 20 euros for meter is confirmed and the zone where it applies is only the South Coast of Corsica.

I know the Natural Parks concerned (Corsica and Sardinia) and they are in fact overcrowded, I mean during the day, at night not much. What they want is obviously to reserve those espaces to super-yachts that would not blink in paying to be there on a natural reserve for rich men only. Disgusting all that.

They should learn with the Spanish and the natural reserve of the Cies Islands.

Re: Corsica introduce Anchorage fees...

Hi all,

This "mooring" tax, although for the time being limited to Corsica, is applicable from 01 July to mid or end of September (not sure of that later date). Corsicans will not be subjected to it...
Sardinia tried this a few years back, and it cost them dearly: no one showed up.. So they cancelled it, and boats are back. Corsica may learn the same lesson if a boycot of the areas concerned is effectively imposed. Forget not that this is a trial run. If it works, most of the French Atlantic and Mediterrranean coast will be on a user/pay basis.. without services rendered for the fee..
So Corsica HAS to be failed.
Going through the main French forums, "Hisse eh Oh" and "STW", it shows that the French boaties are, before being boaties, political debaters and ultimately produce nothing.
So perhaps, a clear reduction of 'Union Jacks', 'Starts and Stripes', 'Maple' ans 'Southern Cross' Ensigns on the local waters may show that the "outside" world of boaties is concerned and serious about doing something..
So yes, any one of you intending to go to Corsica during those dates, consider bypassing the island and go to Sardinia, or Sicily, or even to other non concerned parts of Corsica.
Fair meditarranean summer cruises to ye all

I totally agree. This madness by the French government must fail. Please boycott any areas concerned so that we may all enjoy French waters again.

Re: Corsica introduce Anchorage fees...

Latest news: the French Law Commission of the National Assembly, in its 13 of May deliberation has cancelled that anchoring tax. It cited the example of Sardinia which had such tax cancelled in 2009 after seeing the disastrous effects it had on its local economy. There are talks of installing moorings, for which payments would be required, as already exists in the Madalena archipelago, but those are only talks, nothing concrete yet.
That Anchoring Tax had been voted in by the French Senate of a Republican majority. Now that the Assembly has cancelled that tax, there remains to see how the Senate will react..
So, all you cruisers who intended to visit Corsica, do not yet change your plans, anchoring in those beautiful spots might be possible again.. I'll keep you posted

Re: Corsica introduce Anchorage fees...

Please, I have been following this achoring tax debate on the French forums for months, and I've had my gutfull of opinions on politics and more. Please do not start the same here, I would not be able to handle it. All I'm interested in are facts, no more. The rest is politico-intellectual masturbation! oops! can I write this?

Unfortunately, this is not accurate: the Law Commission of the Senate has repelled the anchoring tax. But the National Assembly has the final say. It voted for this tax first.

I wrote to my representative at the Assembly against that tax but I'm not sure it was enough.
