That said, our Admiral absolutely agrees with the OP's need to be sailing on a vessel that looks good...and the Captain too seems to spend a fair amount of time making sure he likes what he sees when he looks at our beautiful CatNirvana.

As a suggestion to assist the OP and accepting that styling and lines are very much an 'each-to-their-own' kinda thing, we found LOTS of ideas to tweak a vessel's appearance, especially on the inside, to make her more pleasing to the beholder. Some of those ideas might assist with the OP's concerns about things like inside trim and so on. Check out our website if you're interested.

Your title is true to your taste in contemporary design. My first thought it that was almost the opposite of the "stereotypical" nautical ideals and classic lines.

Since I've had experience with your question of visual vs. practical during our transition from a classic monohull to a cruising catamaran, I thought I could offer input.

What you look for and appreciate in a boat can and does change over time. I didn't like the looks of our current catamaran at first, especially our large cockpit cover. But living aboard made me appreciate it so much that I notice when other boats lack this well-implemented of an installation, which is now to me an "attractive" feature.

I love the lines of our catamaran too and agree that aesthetics are important. Yet I notice my perspective is always changing and I now appreciate a much wider spectrum of designs. Oh, and it's never been about what I am "seen in".

Taste is subjective for certain. You'll also "know when you see it" so trust your instincts. We looked at several of the exact model boats until we walked aboard ours and just immediately knew it.

Some time ago I looked at Lagoons and I thought OMG. Today I look and I say it is nice to have vertical, shaded windows that allow plenty of light in but not too much of direct sun!

So it is as that poster said: things grow on you and you grow up and get to like things you used to dislike.
