Anybody Riding out Sandy in Deale,MD area?

Hello all,

My boat is at Shipwright Harbor Marina, and it's all tied down in it's slip. I'd love some regular updates from somebody down there regarding winds/and storm surge. It seems like there won't be much storm surge with Sandy because we're on the left side of the storm and winds won't be pushing much water up the Bay like with Isabel. But I could be wrong...

Not that I can do anything more at this point, but I'd still like to know how worried I should be!

Be safe!

Chris

You should be fine there. I think it will be a low tide event there.

You probably are correct. It may depend on how well tied you are or more important how well the other boats are tied. Being hit by another boat(s) is as bad as hitting one yourself. You should get decent reports by using the NOAA ports system to see the buoy reports of surge and wind near that location.

I am in DC. Nothing unusual about the tide so far. I have double dock lines fore and aft. Took the sails down too. I am not expecting much but a lot of rain.

Our boat is hauled so it rides by itself on the hard. Last year we rode out Irene at our dock. Even slept through part of it although it was very noisy. The risks were limited because the wind never exceeded about 80mph where we were. We also had the benefit of a hurricane barrier for protection. I left all canvas in place! Although none was damaged, it acted the same as a sail would, we slept with the boat pitched about 5-10 degrees.

We are still in our slip at Town Point Marina , just across the creek from you. The winds are forcast to be out of the West and clocking to the NNW. Our location on the Western shore should aleviate any concerns on your part.

Tried to get back to the boatyard where I left the dingy last night here on Long Island but, the roads were already flooded two and a half hours before high
tide:
THE BIANKA LOG BLOG: HURRICANE SANDY: DAY TWO
Was able to catch a glimpse of my boat still on the mooring in the same place I left it last night. But, the storm is just starting to ramp up here.

Update..power to Shipwright and area restored around 16:00. No damage. Some people took scrapes due to pier bumping but nothing major. I am back onboard this evening with heaters up as there is a "nip in the air"

Best wishes to our coastal friends to the north who took a far more devastating blow and have far more work ahead of them.
