A day sail at 9,200 feet.

The recent threads on sailing in Colorado got me fired up, so out I went.

It's fall here in the Rockies, the aspen has long since yellowed and dropped their leaves. We've had our first snows and many of the high lakes are frozen for the winter. Bull elk are done bugling and the deer are cleaning up the last of the apples in the yard. It's a very special time here, my favorite season.

However we have a very pleasant indian summer going on. Today I took the aparently premature winter cover off the day sailor and headed to Twin Lakes. Twin is a natural lake that was enlarged by a dam decades ago. On the south shore is the old site of Interlaken. An old resort from the turn of the century, the previous one. I rigged my little O'Day and headed out in the blustery mid afternoon breeze. I was the only person on or near the lake. Crisp air and sparkling blue skies. That's why I live here.

Hope your day was just as enjoyable.

Do you have a high altitude rig on your boat? At 9200' I'd guess you'd need about a third more sail area than at sea level for the same performance.

Beautiful photo Mr. Miller! When you live in cities you forget how many beautiful places there are in this world.

Norm - The water is less dense as well so the boat goes the same speed -
