Panama to bahamas/florida route

Hi all. We are sailing the eastern caribbean currently in martinique with our 3 kids (3.8.10) on board bojangles a gulfstar 50.
We are heading down to san blas for the hurican season.
Seeking the advise of people that have done it on a route to the bahamas. When to start .places to stop....etc
We are looking for clear water ,snorkeling island exploring and no risk of violence.

I would not rush your departure from Panama. Bocas del Toro till November because late season hurricanes can and do start over the western Caribbean, like around San Andreas. For us it was hurricane IDA

I suppose the wx forecast down there is as good as anywhere. The problem is they have tropical waves that hang out over the area. These things seem to look like the beginning of a hurricane all the time so you kind of get used that kind of wx. Then, pow! In the space of 2 days you can have a hurricane.
