Looking for passage from N America to Europe

Hi everyone! Just joined this forum, looks like an interesting community.

I'm looking for advice. In the next month or two I'm going to be beginning a 3-4 year journey around the world, and I want to do so without resorting to air travel. My first major hurdle will be the trans-Atlantic crossing, west to east. I've looked into freighter travel, but my prior registration looks like it may have fallen through.

I don't have any sailing experience, but I work hard, learn quickly, am a good cook, and have fund available to chip in to a trip. What do you think my chances are for finding a place on a boat headed east?

Any help would be appreciated!

It really helps if you could invest a little bit into learning to sail. You will need to do it a few times to complete the trip. With no experience it becomes a problem where the captain has to be responsible for you.

I think quite good - if you approach it right. and being able (and willing) to chip in on expenses would be a help.

Some time on a boat would be useful, if only so folks know that 10 miles out you won't be demanding to return to shore Lack of experiance not really a problem - for someone willing and able to learn the basics. and being upfront about lack of experiance (and that fundamentally your voyage is not really about sailing) is not a bad thing. All I would really want from you is a pair of eyes on deck whilst I / other crew are asleep (and you with orders to call me whenever you saw anything or got unsure) - anything else is really a bonus.

I agree with David (what a difference a clean shave makes eh? i.e. avatar) I sail alot with folks who have never sailed or even been on a boat...many make excellent crew.
