LaGuadeloupe

I have got a little charter contract at the end of march for a 7 day sail in Guadeloupe.
I have sailed most of the lesser Antilles but never Guadeloupe. Airplane fares used to make it a very expensive destination from Canada.
Thanks to lower airfares I'm leaving on march 31st.

So this being my first time there I broke open the cruising guides and my Navionics to study a possible planning.

But. cruising guides only go so far.

I do look at blogs and other stuff on the net to find the little known thing that will put the WOW! into a trip.

Since i rely mostly on references to find contracts, finding little known secrets that make clients go wow is my way of getting good references.

So this being said, any of you know a little secret spot, hardly known nook, or go there instead of there thing about La Guadeloupe?

Thanks

Re: LaGuadeloupe

Visit Les Saintes (and drive around), visit Marie Galante, another island SSE. And than sail the West coast and visit the Jaques Cousteau nature reserve, close to Dehaies. Amazing. In Deshaies is a wonderful botanical garden too (they pick you up at the jetty) and some good restaurants. Deshaies is the Location where the BBC crime story „Death in Paradise“ is produced.

Re: LaGuadeloupe

Just got back from Guadeloupe
Very nice place
We had a weird swell all week that made the anchorages rally has hell.
But I did like the sailing conditions and the anchorage.
We did Marie Galante, Les Saintes and Gosier.
The distances and trade winds make it hard to go East. And we had swells up to 2 mt.
Nobody wants to beat into that on vacation.
Petite Terre was out of the equation very fast.
I would say Guadeloupe is not an entre level charter destination. If you never sailed on the ocean before chose an easier destination.
But if you have sea experience and can go for at least 10 days or 15, do go. Very good food, rhum and pleasant people

I spent two weeks in Guadeloupe last year, tried to get east to Marie Galante but the current was too strong in the Dominica channel, we just slipped sideways. Did you stay in Pointe Pitre or how did you get there?

Boat was based in Pointe a Pitre. Sailed from PP to Marie Galante and yes lots of current. At one time our SOG was 3.5knts and our SOW was 6.5.
This current reverses with the tide.
