Cruising Northern and Western Yucatan

we've done the yucatan from isla to xcalac. now it's time to go the other way----from isla around the top of the yucatan and along the west coast of the peninsula. has anyone done this? if so, any suggestions of anchorages/towns/marinas??

Have not made it around to the NW side of the Yucatan yet, but the "Rains Guide" has coverage of that area.

Hi Defever,
Looks like a dry thread, but let's try again. We've also cruised the coast up to Isla Mujeres (with very interesting stops in Xcalak and Majahual), and are curious about the top of Yucatan - Isla Holbox, Laguna Yalahau, Rio Lagartos etc. My copy of the Rains guide is on the boat in Isla awaiting our return in January. In the meantime, I'd also appreciate input from anyone who has cruised the top of Yucatan.

Re: Cruising Northern and Western Yucatan

I live in the northern Yucatan area, and have navigated the area many times both towards Cancun and down to Belize, and towards Sisal, Celestun and Campeche. I'm in the process of making a guide for cruisers of the area, because it is a very nice area to cruise, but also safe quiet and with lots of things to see and do at very low cost. My page is called Yucatan Cruising Guide, and is not finished, but can give you and idea of what to see and how to get there in the north part of the Yucatan Peninsula.
