Re: BVI To West Coast California. Truck Or Panama Canal?

I chose sail.
I am frequently reminded that we are putting more hours on the boat in this one trip, than I did on my prior boat in 15 years of coastal racing. And spending lots of time fixing things not installed right, or that have never been tested or that broke. Lots of chafe problems for ex. And breaking both rudders off (poorly engineered) We are coming up on half way to Ventura, CA from Tortola. And hope to finish this year. Its been quite the adventure so far.
Trucking wasn't an option due to our beam. Dockwise ship transport was expensive, probably more than I am spending on the trip. If you don't count time.

Re: BVI To West Coast California. Truck Or Panama Canal?

Effectively finished in Ensenada Dec 9.
We will stay there as we appeal the California State Board of Equalization's rejection of my Use Tax exemption application. I am re-applying with professional help. They want a paper trail of everywhere the boat and I have been, proof of use, insurance, "taking possession", etc. You are guilty till proven innocent. They are sending me threatening tax bills for a boat that has never been to California, which I also have to prove. Sheesh!
Don't enter California till you have this cleared. They found me through my USCG Documentation application. Which was a good thing as it alerted me to the problem and process sooner.
