Not true. We have taken advantage of free berths in newly constructed marinas several times. You just need to not set your expectations too high as it usually is still a construction site.

Last year we spent 9 months in a new marina for the extremely nominal fee of $100 USD per month for a 16-metre yacht.

Re: Marina in Northern Cyprus

We are considering making a winter trip flying from Northern Cyprus to Cairo, and onward to the USA for a month, before returning to Northern Cyprus. Turkish Airlines has direct flights from Ercan to Cairo, where we can connect with flights to the US.

Does anyone know for certain whether your passport is stamped when departing or arriving at Ercan airport?

Further your request , please be informed as follows:

· Our travelift will arrive only mid August, and our dry dock facilities will be operational starting from September,so unfortunately we cannot provide you in June with service required.

· As for your engines to be serviced, we can provide you with this service, but please provide us with more details.

Re: Marina in Northern Cyprus

We have had to move our schedule up and will now be arriving at the Karpaz Gate Marina around August 2nd, then flying out for a three month stay in the US mid August.
Is there anyone there now that can comment on actual conditions and if it is safe to leave the boat there unattended?
Thanks,
Randal

Re: Marina in Northern Cyprus

Several questions for those already in Karpaz Gate Marina. Hopefully someone has experience and knows the answers.

1. Is it possible to fill US style propane tanks locally? If not, is it possible to fill European style cooking gaz tanks?

2. Is it possible or feasible to ship boat parts from EU countries (specifically France) to Karpaz Gate Marina? Likelihood of shipments arriving or will they be infinitely delayed as happens in Istanbul or lost forever? What custom fees and duties should we expect on parts for the yacht valued at 1800 Euro?

Thanks for any info on these topics. We will arrive in Karpaz late August to mid-Sept.

Re: Marina in Northern Cyprus

Are lazy-lines in place for stern-to docking? Are must we use our anchors? Hate to think of pulling up an anchor that has set there for 8-9 months over the winter!

Re: Marina in Northern Cyprus

Monday 18 July

A few answers to your questions - we have been in Karpaz Gate Marina for one week......

There are finger pontoons for boats up to 40' long.
Laid moorings are being put down for stern/bow mooring this week.
We have been told that the customs/import duty fees are very high for items sent to TRNC from other countries, including Turkey. One couple is going to Turkey to collect a new dinghy as it is cheaper and quicker than trying to bring it into TRNC.
There is a restaurant. Showers/WCs. WiFi and Cable TV at each berth
No minimarket; no laundrette; No fuel facilities.
There is a dolmus transport system to Famagusta.
People hire a car to get out and about.

We do advise stocking up with chandlery parts before arriving in TRNC. At Girne you can buy diesel 2.55TL per litre and there are large supermarkets.

It is a very safe marina, several boats have been left unattended. Everyone we have met has is friendly and very helpful eg if they have a hire car they will offer to do food shopping for you.

Friday nights is Fish and Chip night and they go to a place called Dex approx 2km from the marina. Restaurant will provide transport if necessary!

We shall be living aboard our yacht all over the winter through till next May.

Looking forward to meeting you all
