STORM JIB FOR LEOPARD 46

I am looking to buy a storm jib for my 2008 Leopard. Anyone have any suggestions as to size? Make? Use? Or know of one for sale? Thanks. Eric

Re: STORM JIB FOR LEOPARD 46

I just had a set of storm sails made for my 2005 Hunter 36, which came in very handy sailing from the Chesapeake Bay down to the BVIs last month in a major storm.

Jerry Latell, at Ulmann Sails, in Deltaville, VA made them for my boat.

Feel free to mention my name if you contact him for sails.

His quality is very high, and his price quite reasonable, especially with his Winter, off season discount.

As for size: he sized both sails at 33%.
Having just gone through winds at 30kts, gusting to 40kts, with 50kt winds possible, I have asked Jerry to add a reef point in the sails he made, to take them to 20%. The reefs in storm sails that I have seen, are reefed from the bottom, up.

Last bit
You, of course, you want them made in the current standard fluorescent orange.

Good advice. Problem is that the OP might be 10,000 miles from the Chesapeake. This is the difficulty with posters that lack any geographic identification in a world wide forum.

Who made the rig/sails for your Leopard 46? Robertson and Caine use multinationals. Norths or someone like that would be able to advise. Find out the original rig and sail supplier.

cheers

It's a mixed bag when your are looking for both sails and advice, in this case. At least you got some advice. Best of luck on finding your sails.

Also, if you have in mast furling, does it have a second track to shank a Trysail on?
