got a boat Leopard 40

Well after searching for boats since may I finally got one !!
I have gone thru ads in every listing I could find and have scheduled 3 trips to look at boats ,canceling all three trips after finding out the real condition of the boats. I don't understand why people try to hide the truth about boat condition.
I have posted a lot of questions on this site and have gleaned a ton of useful
information . Thank you all for your tolerance and encouragement.
I ended up with a 2010 leopard 40 . going to BVI to survey and sea trial on Jan 31.
I know their are a lot of post from people dreaming, to live the life of the sea, and you all have been very helpful . Hope to see a lot of you guys at Miami boat show

Congrats on the new to you boat. We on the other hand are sitting in a hotel room in Fort Lauderdale hoping that the next 3 boats we look at are not as disappointing as the others we have seen. And are also wanting to meet all of the wonderful people for CF soon as a boat owner.

A good broker will narrow down the search and focus on your needs and budget. If you don't have a good broker PM me . There are several out there just look on this site and there are a lot of names

Is the problem misrepresentation by the brokers. Which broker are you using? You can PM me if you want.

And they say it's a buyers market. Congratulations on your new boat.

Re: got a boat Leopard 40

Really the money thing was a joke .
It is a buyers market on boats that are not what they say they are but a good boat is difficult to find . And when found if it is all they say doesn't last on the market long . I got mine for 10K less than asking plus a set of newer sails

Re: got a boat Leopard 40

The main problem I had before I just started using boats the broker knew personally
Was people saying there boat was in great condition then when pressed [for example I will have a good surveyor ck the boat] they the say well there are a few things I didn't mention.
Or they advertise "state of the art equipment " and while it may be functional it is 12 years old . or just in general misrepresenting the workmanship on repairs and general condition of boat

Re: got a boat Leopard 40

Hi Rancher44

Congratulations on your new boat! Wish you a lot o fun and great winds!

I am just starting looking for boats and although I have been looking for "older(cheaper)" boats, I am having the same problem you state, it is quite rare the sellers do share the problems the boats have.

As I am looking for early 00s boats (like 10 years old), I do expect them to need some investments in maintenance of fixing, even substituting something.

The prices reflect the age, but sellers won't share what you should expect to be fixing on the next 6 months/ one year from buying it.

Best

Gus

Re: got a boat Leopard 40

It would be hard to answer the question of what it will need in 6 mos or year but a good surveyor would give you the best answer. Find a broker that knows boats and has tons of experience .

Re: got a boat Leopard 40

They will tell you if you say I am going to have a good surveyor ck the boat and I will be very upset if we find things that are major and apparent that you kept from me.
I am going to be spending a lot of money and time please be up front .
Usually they will come clean . And if there are issues ask on this site people that have experience.
GET A GOOD BROKER!!!!
