I'd hard wire it simply and tuck it away in a taped up bag. Then fit a wireless remote like many here recommended. I don't think you will use the old switch once it is fitted. It also works from the helm, just pick one with a decent range. Google for truck winch remote as that's the main market. It's very useful for single handing.
