Invaluable trouble shooting tool. Corrected shore power outlets in two different harbors in Newfoundland which had reversed polarity,
Not being picky but what type of or how do you use a non contact tester to indicate reverse polarity?

+1.

Here is a little known fact. The hubble style 30a connector was originally designated as a 20a connector. When pressed into marine service, they stated 30a intermittent. Somewhere along the way, "Intermittant" was dropped.

If I were King, Smartplug would be required. It is that good. The hubble style is a gamble. Do you like to gamble with your boat???

Re: Shore power not getting to boat. Ideas? Maybe an easy fix?

Great question IP485! It turns out the hot black wire is always connected to the narrower of the 2 flat prongs in all conventional 125VAC plugs, but the wider of the two non-flanged curved prongs of Hubbel style 30A 125VAC plugs! (What could go wrong?).

To be honest, the Xantrex charger showed the Polarity Fault red LED the first time it happened. I then started carrying my pocket tester, and before hooking in put the flat tip into the wider outlet on the dock to confirm correct polarity.
