Need to find replacement solenoid

HELP! We are having a terrible time find this solenoid. It says Fluidex, Parker Hannifin Corp. It shows Series 1998, catalog #04F20C2-1090. The phone number is no longer in service and the corp. now discusses hazard waste dump in Mississippi. We have not found an image match online either. This is an automatic shut-off valve for propane tank. Thanks!

I bet you are going to have to buy a complete valve assembly.

Probably won't be able to get the coil as stated above.

There is another thread around about the use of high and low pressure valves. Make sure if you are using directly off the bottle before the regulator its a high pressure valve, the secound link. The parker coil you pictured if fitted to the valve repackaged by Trident is a low pressure valve and needs to be after the regulator. Also should note for a stem type solenoid valve like you are using its extremely important that the surface is clean between the stem and coil. If the surfaces gets fouled or coil is not properly seated it will overheat.

No problem. Go to Grainger online and buy a new coil. You can also call them and they should be able to cross reference the parker number.

You can find a micrometer to measure the wire (without resin) Then unwind the turns while counting them ! Go to any motor repair shop and ask them to rewind it! Normally do it myself if I have time. If you then measure the core i/d you can make a spare or 2 ! Just a thought !

Or just purchase a new solenoid. They are about $50 and don't last forever.

That looks exactly like a hot Gas Defrost Solenoid that we used to use in fridges way back decades ago . I must have a couple of them kicking around here. These solenoids opened when energized to let hot gas (refrigerant) to bypass the condenser and capillary tube straight to the evaporator in order to melt the frost build up. Propane is a refrigerant basically like the old (illegal) R-12. In fact propane works as a refrigerant better than R-12 and doesn't contain any chlorine atoms. Anyways that valve and solenoid would work just fine if your looking for a (normally closed) valve. If you're looking for just the solenoid coil ,that's the easiest fix. I have some of those around here but the problem is finding them. I haven't used any of those for at least 25 years. If I can't find one, I'll check with my suppliers. Also any appliance repair shop could easily have one if they've been in business for 30 years or more.

OK if you can find one ! PS Coils do last forever if wound properly only the core tube wears as it is normally brass and is the only moving part.
