Hitachi 60 Amp alternator for Yanmar 3GM

Anybody have a wiring diagram to change over from the 35 amp.

The Guy on the phone in Dania was absolutely clueless

I just changed from a 55amp hitachi to a 65 amp on my yanmar and the wiring was the same. The new alternator was missing a ground stud so made one rather that using a machine screw.

Where did you hook up the small red wire?

I swapped one and just hooked it up the same... I've got the books in my shop, but I'm on the boat in Key West 350 miles away

I believe the small red wire is for the hookup to the tach if that is how your engine is wired. If you have a hall effect sensor on your flywheel then the red wire just hangs there. Does nothing. Thats how mine are. 4JH3-TE. Hitachi alternators.

Chief, I've got to think hitach makes more than one 35 and more than one 60. That they have multiple options, different wiring configurations.

If you could say exactly which model number each alternator is, that might help.

OTOH if the alternators are "the same" except for the 60 being a longer body...they could be plug compatible.

Guessing by names, these would be (E)xcite - field, (P)ulse - output to rpm gauge, and (B)attery - direct to battery plus terminal.

But this is just a guess. Hopefully someone with access to Hitachi catalogue can confirm.

Re: Hitachi 60 Amp alternator for Yanmar 3GM

"tee" meaning three 1/4" fast-on spade type blades, arranged in a "T" in a circular plug?
That would be a standard automobile configuration, the three leads going to the ignition to turn the alternator on/off and connect to the warning light.
