Do 24vDC /12vDC damage 12v Battery

At anchor my 12v AGM is charged by Victron DC / DC convertor from my 24v house bank.

It always seems to get overcharged.

Is it a problem with the System or the Victron unit?

Does your converter have adjustable voltage? If so what is it set at?

(Only Victron Orions with adjustable voltage are suitable for 12V battery charging).

Is it a converter or charger? You should be able to buy a multi stage DC-DC charger. Converters are for running direct loads, not charging.

The output voltage can be set between 10V and 15V
by turning the potmeter (use slotted head screwdriver
nr 01 – 3.5mmx0.75mm).
The default value is 13,2V. When no load is applied
this can be slightly higher.

Sorry to be so late getting back... I have been swamped with work removing and stripping my wooden masts for inspection...(another thread)

Downloaded a manual for my old Victron Orion 24/12/20 and is says it can be used to charge a 12 V battery to max voltage 13.6 V to max current 20 A

However it does not have 3 stage charging.... which I am wondering on my 8D- 12V AGM single battery...if this is a concern?

Says that voltage is set at factory and not as Don showed.... guess that is a newer model

At 13.6v it will never fully charge. Why do you think it's overcharging?

Yes my original concern was because the battery always felt hot that this old model Orion..was overcharging.

Now, assuming it is working properly, is this still an OK way to constantly charge an AGM 12 V?
