Re: Cheap China lifepo batteries

The key word is 'engineered' here. You will benefit from talking with Steve Alvey of Pender Island, BC. Steve is a devoted sailor, retired engineer and an inventor with a lot of expertise on this particular topic.

A lot of DIYers have gotten cheaper batteries from China.
Lots of information at https://diysolarforum.com/conversations/

I was going to buy a set for my new/old boat until I realized my Charger/Inverter would not be compatible ;-(

Installing Costco FLA GC batteries for now...

Re: Cheap China lifepo batteries

I am not sure how many times we have to be reminded that a lot, not all but more than most Chinese made products are cheap because they are crap. Just last week I watched a video comparing the tolerances on 11 new motorcycles by doing a sophisticated oil analysis after break-in. The thinking is the closer the tolerances the longer the motorcycle will last. The Chinese made bike was the worst and so bad that the test on that motorcycle was ended half way through. They found microscopic pieces of lint, hair, etc in the sample. Walmart has made tens of billions convincing Americans that cheap is really better and how can you complain if that crap you bought does not last, hell you did not pay lot. A pair of jockey shorts that may not last long because it's made in China is one thing but a battery that is critical to the operation of my vessel is another. Buy the best you can afford and screw China!

I'm afraid to say that this video is rubbish - like much on youtube....

He's made a very basic error - that is fundamental to the analysis of his results. He calculated the discharge capacity to 50% when the voltage was down to 12.2v. This voltage must be after the batteries have been allowed to 'rest' for several hours with no load - this is impossible on a cruising boat. If you don't do this then I'm afraid to say the results are nonsense. Later in his blog, he did say that the batteries delivered their 50% capacity when the voltage fell to 12.02v - not 12.2v. That sound about right

This is the major problem estimating when a battery is at 50% which is why a decent Battery Monitor is needed.

Sadly all the comments posted thought he was wonderful and failed to see the error of his ways.

Maybe you should look at what "buyers" are saying on eBay Community Forums

shipping time from seller seems excessive
It usually is.But even worse is the fact if you get your item and find out it's Counterfeit or a piece of garbage, which they usually are, you will find that it is too costly to return it so you can't get a refund.

The Chinese sellers are experts at stringing buyers along with lies like:

"It's on it's way. You need to be more patient."

It never comes and you can't file because you waited too long.

"Don't worry, you don't like it, we refund you."

Big fat lie!

QUIT buying from Chin
