available summer 2017

I am graduating from the United states air force Academy in may 2017, and subsequently have 60 days of leave during which I am looking to volunteer as crew. I don't have any cruising experience but I have experience sailing 420s. I am very technically savvy and think I would be of great use.

I will be available from the beginning of June until July 25th. I am also willing to pay a small fee if that would sweeten the deal of taking me on as crew.

You say "I am very technically savvy and think I would be of great use".

What kind of technically savvy are you.....?
VHF radios?
SSB radios?
Solar Panels?
Electrical ?
Mechanical?
Diesel?
Hvac?
Fiber Glass?
Epoxy Paint?
Sail Making?
Scuba?
Navigation?
Mast climbing?
Woodworking?

Now that I've listed what I need done.

Can you sail a boat?

Life aboard is fun but there is a bit of work to be done.

Good to see you on CF.

Re: available summer 2017

When I say technically savvy: I don't have any specific training related to boats. I am an electrical engineering major, although I'd say most of that is theoretical more than practical. I know how to work on cars, mostly basic stuff, for example I installed a custom fuel system and nitrous kit in my car. I didn't do that with any training, I just read articles on the Internet and figured it out on my own, so I'd say I'm a quick learner and I'd be willing read up on any skill that would be required of, or try to find some practical experience before hand if I find the opportunity.

Forgot to add, my only sailing experience is on 420s. That and reading books.

Re: available summer 2017

Hello GCalley, I am also looking for an Atlantic crossing opportunity in Spring/Summer 2017. I was glad to see your post. From the info you have shared, I think you would be a fine candidate for crew, so don't get discouraged. I wish you great success.

Re: available summer 2017

I am putting together a crew list to bring my 47ft cutter up the coast from Cabo to San Francisco around that time. Send me your details in a PM so we can say hello, and I can ping you as we get closer.
