Handle for Windlass

Hi,

I just bought a nifty little old bronze manual windlass (ABI). Problem is, it lacks the handle crank thingy. Anybody know where I might find one?

I think any piece of bar stock stainless or bronze works on these. Measure the slot and buy a 2' maybe 2 1/2 foot piece.

Re: Handle for windlass

mine is 2 1/2 ft long-- good for leverage. is about 1/8 in thickness, and almost 2 in wide. if you get 304 ss, should be about 5 =10 dollars. mine also has a marlingspiked work handle--niiiice. keeps paws from coldness. have fun--is truly easy to find.

Re: Handle for windlass

My ABI has a handle made of stainless tubing 26 1/2" long. The tubing is flattened on one end to fit the slot in your windlass. It's used both for the brake and the drive. If you bought stainless tubing, flattened one end and put a bicycle handlebar grip on the other (maybe a motorcycle grip) you'd have the same thing. Where you flatten the end just have it welded to seal the end if you want. Makes it stronger and doesn't allow water to get inside.
Might make up two of them just in case you lose one overboard.
kind regards,
