I think partnering is a great idea as long as it is set up properly, and even then things can go wrong. Ask me how I know...
My dad partnered in airplanes, a
partnership that last some 35+ years until my dad's passing a couple of years ago.
My boat
partnership ended (somewhat badly) after only a couple of years. The issue was not getting someone who could economically afford a half a boat. I carried his share of
fees and
maintenance for far too long. Never recovered the
money but I have the boat...

The second thing we did was set up a boat bank account and I used quickbooks pro to set the boat up as a business. The financial records were impeccable clearly documenting his arrears and a second benefit was detailed
maintenance cost records.
