40ish foot blue water cruiser in New Zealand

We're looking for a bwc for coastal cruising with 3 yr view to take offshore.
Happy to take on some work but want to get sailing by December.
Budget is tight at nz $100k but we have reasonable cashflow to upgrade gear as we go.
2 kids 11yr son and 13yr daughter to accommodate aboard...
Not excited about fero but consider steel (subject to Hull cond) prefer fibreglass. Trolled trademe but there must be more about. We're based Dundedin but travel north regularly...
Must haves... comfortable seaway (no light displacements), solid rigging, easy rig to handle, good accommodation, wish list...plenty of cruising kit.
Wife and I are evperienced with trailer yachts (noel ex 22) but this will be our first keeler. Just done coastal skipper qualification and now ready to start building more competency so need something forgiving that will build confidence and help grow the kids into sailors... and take us on some adventures. ..

nzmal,

Understand $$ are short, but had you considered an Adams Naught 40 from Australia? Two aft cabins and a Pullman double berth fwd. Some were built flush deck, encapsulated lead keel, but with a saildrive.

Re: 40ish foot blue water cruiser in New Zealand

Hi nzmal,

Our Salthouse is for sale. We sailed the Islands and then up to Thailand and back with our 2 children (11 and 13 back then) for 3 years. She is 37 feet but feels and looks like a 40 footer. Lovely sea kindly boat with a beautifully finished teak and kauri interior. The children have a roomy quarter berth each with plenty of storage. Well set up for offshore and in your price range. She is also a great coastal cruiser.

Have a look:

Thanks Adrienne
We're actually looking at a Salthouse cav39 at the moment that looks very similar. Very impressed with this design. Looks to be a nice compromise between manageable coastal cruiser and capable blue water boat.

Hi nzmal
The noticeable difference between a Cav39 and the design of Momentum (which only has one sister ship) is that the cockpit has more beam and that's where you spend most of your time; otherwise, very similar down below except Momentum has two quarter berths. Once you've seen the Cav39 come and have a look at Momentum!
