Re: 1989 Hans Christian 38 Telstar keel

Thank You very much, she is a honey!

PRICE REDUCED BY $15,000USD.....NOW $85,000

Additional Information....

In 1984 one of the two 38T production molds went in for surgery in search for better performance. The keel’s leading edge was moved aft, a large bite was taken from the trailing edge, and was complemented with a redesigned skeg-mounted rudder. The revised boat was dubbed the “Telstar” Hans Christian 38 Traditional. Beckwith tells us, the Telstar Keel was a considerable improvement, it pointed higher and particularly improved light wind performance.

“Design input came from Scott Sprague, but really the area to cut the keel was figured by John Edwards, the founder of Hans Christian. There was a bit of trembling when the first sea trial was conducted in Taiwan. Nobody really knew what to expect. But lo and behold, the boat sailed like a dream. The helm was light as a feather when compared to the older 38 Traditional which really sailed more on her head sails. We also increased the lead of the mast by moving the spar 12 inches forward, thus reducing the weather helm vastly.” – Craig Beckwith

Yes, as stated, EU Duty paid. Re chainplate bolts, they've not been changed, didn't know they needed changing.

Some need looking at. Not saying yours do but they give trouble.

Your's is one of the nicest boats I've seen.

Hi,

We love this boat! We are seriously considering buying it. We live in Germany but our boat will be docked in the Med.

We have many questions but the forum will not let us PM you. Can you email us to continue this discussion?

Our email address is owner@crossfitstuttgart.com

Thanks, Ann & Paul

I have to say, she shows much better in the photos on here then in the ones on Yachtworld. Its hard to even make out some of the Yachtworld photos because of the poor quality. I agree with every one else, she is a beautiful boat, but the YW listing just doesn't do her justice. You may want to have a talk with your broker about that.

Headroom?

To see it, one would fly into SXM, correct?

Very nice boat.

I thought those were above average yachtworld photos. They tend to limit the pixels both so photos will load quickly, and to manage storage requirements.

Re: 1989 Hans Christian 38 Telstar keel

I have always liked the style of the HC line.

Your boat looks especially nice and well equipped and with a new engine and current price looks like a very good opportunity for a buyer.

If I were in the market to buy today, you would hear from me.

I do like the profile side view photos you posted, with the iceberg background looking cool too.

Can you say something about the teak deck replacement as I may wind up getting a sister ship someday?

Also curious about the cost to replace the engine.

Looks like a beauty! I much prefer that interior layout to the Pullman type of HC38 I had. What engine is in that? Not one I recognize. You need HP to get these boats thru chop for sure. Watch out... the glassed in tanks are under all the furniture! $99k is getting down to what these need to sell for. Brokers will tell you they are worth $135k... but wont sell for that. Mine was loaded without teak decks and it took me 1.5 years to get $90k.
