Sail Measurements

Need some help here. Have a 2003 FP Belize 43 and we’re getting a new main sail. Sail maker wants to know the measurements of the original sail that would have come on the boat. FP has not responded to my e-mails requesting this info and I haven’t found anything on here. We recently purchased the boat and do not know if the current sail is original or not.

Re: Sail Measurements

I've assembled a few documents thanks to several people here.
One is the sailplan.

Re: Sail Measurements

Good stuff from Stu, but in most cases it is far better for the sailmaker to actually measure the boat as it really is than to rely upon a sailplan drawing when building new sails. There's more to a sail than just the external measurements.

We are taking measurements as well. Not sure why, but they requested original sail measurements as well.

I see... perhaps he wanted some reference to roach dimensions recommended by the designer... that's something beyond what you get from on site measurements.

Enjoy your new sails!

Stu,

Thanks for this information. I’ll pass it on to the sail maker. I’ll also download them for future reference.

Re: Sail Measurements

I have just ordered new sails from Precision in Canada and pondered why I needed to pull and measure my existing sails as well. As noted the designer will use the measurements we physically provide by measuring the rig, the original spec sheet and our measurements of the existing sails just to make sure it all jives and makes sense.

Thanks. Precision is who we are ordering through also. Just did my measurements today, along with pulling the existing sail and measuring it.
