Jono,

Here's a link for a "relatively" inexpensive NMEA wind sensor.

Clipper Marine Instruments

If you already use the NMEA port on the server you can also look at getting an NMEA multiplexer which can be sourced for around $130.

Martins solution is probably the best option albeit a bit more expensive.

Correct, that is what i did. Apparently you could connect it at any point in the network, like the back of a display unit, but on the Mahe the most convenient is at the server.
I was not told this and it was only after a lot of frustration that i found out about the connectivity change.
