I live and sail the med near turkey and the med is largely tideless from the influence of the moon The largest lunar tide is about 0.5 M There are depth changes due to atmospheric pressure and wind conditions but these are unpredictable

Re: tide and current

The most important ones for me:
---Ottranto-strait
---Adria / Palagruza

It is the Aegean Sea at an Sporades / Efstratios--Psathoura.
The plan: openwater seakayaking.

I gave a thought to it, I carry everything by the learned ones the OpenCPN with myself without..

The smallest current counts too.

Re: Tide and Current

See the picture attached, if you dont have all this stations (the green litlle arrows) you can put them in your OCPN folfer, this are 2 archives , harmonic and harmonic.idx , you can get them from a link in my blog: Crónicas de a Bordo: Agregar tablas de marea de Sudamérica en OpenCPN , it refers to Southamerica but it includes all the world available, this is data from Wxtide. regards. alex

if you dont understand spanish there is a Google translate widget at the top right.

Re: Tide and Current

Thnaks for that But all the tide stations in the med and most in spain seem to be empty of harmonic data Right clicking the tide station brings up the correct tde station dialog box but without harmonic tide data. When i open tide data in the UK or USA harmonic data is correctly displayed

This is for the OP
Maximum tide movement in the med is 0.5 M In the Aegean we have a trade wind called the melteme. In the summer this blows across the Aegean without fail every day at about force 4 to 5. from the NW Local conditions may mean the wind is bent. In our gulf Gogova it blows daily from the west from about 10 am until 5 pm It is so reliable we can set our watches by it The melteme starts in may and ends in October Sea condition in the Aegean are normally short and sharp. In our gulf the melteme is so consistant we refer to sailing west a going uphill and sailing east downhill
regards

Richard

Re: Tide and Current

I made some checks, Gibraltar, Napoli, Corse, Malaga, Almería, Port Vendres, etc. in Med. and all Atlantic Spain/Portugal coast for example all worke fine, but some other didnt I checked just a few, it looks random. This is with the files I said, of course the originals dont work at all. It would take a lot of time to check but I say it was something like 70% worked. in the southatlantic all work thats why I have them . good luck. alex

Re: Tide and Current

I saw a readme file in the OpenCPN folder for tides that says the files there are more accurate then the files from WXTides.....

Does anyone know?

Are the ones built into OpenCPN, although limited in coverage, more accurate, or the ones that are referenced here from WXTide A-OK to use?

Thanks for the info!

Re: Tide and Current

The doc says so but "to work nicely in the US", OCPN gets data from XTide and WXtide from XTide so.., the WXtide harmonics in my case cover areas that OCPN doesnt, and they are accurate for me, I use them to do equipment comissioning in shallow waters in the Rio de la Plata area. I also use Tide Tool on a Palm , based on XTide and it equals WXtide output.regards. alex
