Orthodromic Distance

Hello,
I have a question : is OpenCpn using by calculating of the distance between two points the orthodromic distance mode? Always if I make a mesurament of the distance between f.e. NY and Porto it looks like to be done by loksodromic distance mode.

Thank you in advance

Jacekpio

Sorry for my english.

Re: Orthodromic Distance

OpenCPN uses a loxodrome, or Rhumbline, to calculate distances. (mercator sailing). Great Circle sailing is (so far) available through a few different scripts/programs.
The gc route below, comes from a script available at opencpn.org.

great circle distance -> 2883M
Approximation of great-circle by the route -> 2893M
Rhumbline/loxodrome -> 2960M

Re: Orthodromic Distance

Dear Thomas, thanks for your replay. I have supposed that, but it is much better to know . Than one question more - do You know any scripst/ programs that allow to divide a gc route to loxodromic sections with COG to and from the point?
Thanks in advance
Jacek

Check this page Planning Data | Official OpenCPN Homepage. There is a link to the scrips at the bottom of the page.
The gc script produces a route (gpx file). Instructions how to import a gpx file is available here The Route Manager and Data Import/Export | Official OpenCPN Homepage
