Grib button problems

Thomas..

Both GRIB button and the display panel was working perfectly until I minimized the display panel. After that it never more appeared,even after re-installing v. 1.3.6
By the way,is there a later beta release? Source Forge only shows v. 1.3.6.

Problem with Track?

I have finally used OpenCPN in a real navigation situation. This test was run with BSB charts (between LA and Catalina Island!).

It seems that there is a problem with the tracking function. It is relatively hard to fully characterize the problem because tracking is (obvisouly) only active when the boat is moving. What I observed:

- The track sometimes disappears when changing the zoom level
- After changing the zoom level, the program seems to (sometimes) stop tracking (track button is clicked and nothing shows)

This one might be intentional but not necessarily user friendly:

- The delete track option only deletes segments of tracks. This leaves pieces of track hanging that needs to be deleted one by one.

Side note: I mentioned in the feature request thread the problem with serial ports being limited to 16. This is again a real issue with Windows machine... Port numbers keep getting higher and higher.

Sinbad,
I can't help you unless you answer my question about your config file.
I can't repeat the problem neither on Linux nor on XP.

The latest file checked into CVS at sourceforge is dated

So there is no new beta.

It seems a bit messy on win. If you know where your log file is, the opencpn.ini file is in the same folder.

Two examples to give you a hint:

Win 7: C:\Users\"actual user"\AppData\Roaming\opencpn\opencpn.ini

XP: C:\Documents and Settings\"actual user"\Application Data\opencpn\opencpn.ini
Note that "Application Data" is a hidden folder, so a normal search for opencpn.ini will probably not work.

We need to get all this into the wiki, as it is a very common question. More input from windows users is welcome.

Hi Thomas..

Finally found the opencpn.ini file attached.
Can you see why the GRIB utility is missing.

If your screen is less than 773px tall, it is below the desktop. Edit the property GRIBDialogPosY=773 to read 0, and it should show.

To find the OpenCPN folder that contains the log and config files (and more), this instruction works on XP.
1 Go to Start -> Run
2 Enter
Code:
%APPDATA%\opencpn
3 Click OK!
Up pops the folder!

I need feed back if this is working on 98,2000,Vista and 7.

sredna...

Thanks for the tip. I edited the opencpn.ini file as you suggested but now the grib info box fill the entire screen. Evenchanging back to the old value the full screen is still showing and can't find a way to reduce it.
What are the correct grib settings for a normal small grib info window?

The grib dialog is likely below your panel then, at y=773.

As I see it, there are no correct values as such, as long as you stay within the perimeter of your screen, because the user can move and resize the grib window.

In my earlier post I had these values:
GRIBDialogSizeX=300
GRIBDialogSizeY=540
GRIBDialogPosX=858
GRIBDialogPosY=211

If you shut down OpenCPN, edit GRIBDialogSizeX and GRIBDialogSizeY to reasonable values (or copy mine), I think that there is a fair chance that the grib button etc. will behave!

Thomas-Anders..

I found the grib box control at the top and adjusted accordingly. Thanks...
